NOTICE! The summer project is underway!

So the style for my uni summer project – a magazine – is starting to take shape!

This is the brief we’ve been given:

The requirements are as follows:

• Cover

• Contents page

• 4 Articles  –

  1. Global Design (Design studios around the world, culture, trends, history etc)
  1. What is ‘communication design’ in the 21st Century?
  1. An article of your own choosing  – but design related.
  1. Study on a particular studio/illustrator/designer/photographer

So – my articles are, 1st – About the best design studios in the world right now (like a top ten sorta thing), 2nd article is obviously “What is ‘communication design’ in the 21st, Century?”, 3rd *article of my own choosing* What is the difference between graphic design and illustration in the 21st century? – and the 4th article is about my favourite designer right now, City Abyss.

We also need to have a double page spread about what we did this summer (see previous blog) and it has to be a minimum of ten pages – 5 spreads.

So I’ve decided that my mag is going to be about issues in the 21st cent’ creative world, as well as each week having an article about a new rising star in the creative industry – but on a retro platform, think 40s – 60s mish mashed with new stuff! It’s called “Notice!” because we’re taking notice of the newcomers!

Here’s the front cover, contents page, summertime page and newcomer page. You may notice that the names of each article are based on a song title or a particular lyric. In this case, Daft Punk, Led Zepplin, Dr Dre, The Damned and Porgy & Bess.

So when’s it’s all done and made up I shall take some picks and stick them up here for you guys! Hope you like it so far! :)

Vintage Flash Video Finito!

Finished my flash animation (1920′s “How to make the perfect … Martini!) and it’s up on my Youtube Channel – check it out!

A 1920′s style silhouette flash animation.

I drew/cut out the silhouettes using black card, and the background is scrunched up pink tissue paper. There’s also a few loosely drawn ink and water illustrations as well to stop the animation looking totally flat.
Originally it was going to be like a silent movie, with the Charleston music, but a voice over was mandatory – soo, got the boyfriend to do the voice over – thank yoou! :D x
Anyways, it’s a “How to…” video, a lil’ step by step process into making a Martini – the signature 1920s speak-easy poison of choice!

1920s with a dash of Diet Coke!

A quick wee update into what I’m working on in studio right now – a flash animation on how to make the perfect Martini (1920s themed of course!) – using collage and illustration.

Been very busy today but was luckily fueled by diet coke (thanks to Emma bringing in two bottles and plastic cups – yay! :D ), so I got rather a bit done!

Here’s a few of my research boards, from the early stages. Looking at the colour schemes and artists:

And here’s my first quick storyboard, and the new storyboard! On the new storyboard you can see that I’m using silhouettes of the 1920s Flappers, the objects I’m going to draw in the style of 20′s illustration (more research to do on that!) and the pink represents where I’m going to scan in some vintage style wallpaper as a textured background.

And here are my first cut outs of some Flapper’s silhouettes – soo glad I’ve gotta craft knife – this woulda been hell with scissors!

 And here’s is one that will be featured in the animation!

Got some pretty positive feedback from the lecturers – so hears hoping it all goes well!

Shall keep ya posted – off to work now!
